Purpose : To analyze the medical services for fans and players of the Korean Professional Baseball League.
Methods : First, we visited the 8 main stadiums of the Korean professional baseball league and conducted an interview with a medical services supervisor from each one. The questionnaire used in the interview was categorized into three subjects: 1) Health care providers or medical personnel, 2) Equipment and facilities,3) Medical records of the patients who required medical care in the stadium. Second, we collected additional information through telephone
interviews. Third, the collected data was confirmed through e-mail correspondence with each telephone interviewee.
Results : We found that health care providersare on-site at all stadiums in the following distributions: nurses (at 75% of the stadiums), emergency medical technicians (at 75% of the stadiums), physicians (at 25%). Moreover, seventy five percent of the stadiums use a combination of health care providers. Five of the eight interviewees (63%) said that they could do advanced cardiac life support. Additionally, we concluded that most stadiums have suitable equipment and facilities and that they are well prepared. Ambulances are on-site at all stadiums. However, we found the medical records of all but one of the stadiums to be inadequate.
Conclusion : All Korean league baseball clubs provide medical services for fans and players. Further studies are needed whether the present medical services are enough or not.
